Self Esteem Workbook Designed for high school children, this independent self esteem workbook helps students focus on their positive attributes, reflect on achievements and look optimistically towards the future. Engaging and interesting, the workbook has a range of activity pages to make wellbeing fun. I have used this resource as a learning mentor for vulnerable children and it has worked well. It feels like a mini project and at the end of the workbook they have a piece of work that they are both proud of and refer back to when they are feeling down or experiencing low self esteem. Pages included: Picture first page About me blurb What makes me unique Bucket list Share praise Compliment yourself Mindful coloring Creating a ‘you’ potion Looking to the future Wellbeing ladder Positivity word search Flip the thought There are 12 activity pages. The document is set up so there are two pages per A4 piece of paper (6 A4 pages in total). The pages do not have to be in any particular order accept for the front and back page (picture and blurb pages) which means printing and constructing the booklet is easy. The booklet is saved in editable PowerPoint form so can be altered to suit your student if needs be. There will be some American spellings in this resource Thanks! Science House

Describing Objects Cognition and Learning Task Cards

(0)
Describing Objects Cognition and Learning Task Cards Included in this resource: 24 ‘describe’ task cards - These task cards have an image of an everyday object on them (e.g. a shoe) and three keywords associated with the object (e.g. foot, lace and walk) which the child has to avoid using to describe the object. This promotes cognitive skills and the child must think outside the box for alternative descriptive words to best describe the object, beyond the typical choices. 24 ‘link’ task cards - These task cards have three words (e.g. cold, chocolate and vanilla) on them. The child must think of the link between these three words (e.g. in this case - ice cream). These task cards encourage children to explore connections and relationships between words, in order to find a common link. They vary in difficulty to provide some differentiation. The document is print ready and A4. I have used this resource with a wide range of age groups. I have used these cards to support children with broadening their vocabulary and their ability to apply descriptive language. I have also used this resource as a relationship builder / ice breaker to scaffold conversation with a new child to the group. I have found the cards useful both in on a 1:1 basis and in a group/class setting. Many thanks - Science House

Emotions and Feelings Learning Mentor Resources

Emotional Wellbeing and Reflection Activity As a learning mentor, I’ve struggled to find age appropriate wellbeing resources to use with my middle and high school students - most seem to be tailored to little ones. This resource focusses on how young people feel about common school and home issues. Included in this resource: 16 situation cards - cards describing specific situations at home or school e.g. friendships, bullying, learning, home life etc. A positive emotion fan set (including seven feelings fans) A negative emotion fan set (including seven feelings fans) How to use: Students pick a situation card at random and read it e.g. Situation Card 15: You see another student being bullied at break time. You are in two minds what to do, as you were previously quite close with the group doing the bullying Students then pick whether they feel positive or negative about this. They pick up either the positive fan set or the negative fan set Students then choose one or two specific emotion fans from the set e.g. Disappointed and Vulnerable You can then talk to your students why they would feel this way and explore these feelings deeper The resource comes with full instructions. There will be some American spellings in this resource. I find this resource to be interactive, conversation prompting and accessible to middle and high school learners.

Emotions and Feelings Dice Game How to play . . . There are three cubes: Scenario Time Emotion You roll all three cubes at the same time. This will give you a scenario (e.g. you are with friends, with family, at school etc.), a time (today, yesterday, this year etc.) and an emotion (happy, angry, let down etc.). Students can talk about a memory or experience linked to that specific scenario, time and emotion. For example, the result of one of the rolls may lead to a discussion around . . . A time at school last year where they felt angry about a situation. Why this game is useful . . . This game supports conversation around previous lived experiences and emotions attached to these. It is a good way of aiding a child or young person to reflect on both positive and negative memories both historical and recent. I have used this game in mentoring sessions with vulnerable children. It has been helpful in broaching conversations around the past and offers some structure and focus. I have found that the game element and physical rolling of the cubes encourages engagement more than worksheet or written resources. There will likely be American spellings in this resource.
